Easy Air Fried Bell Peppers
Soft and juicy, air-fried bell peppers are the best thing ever! They have a delicious sweet flavor and a soft texture.
Roasting bell peppers in the air fryer enhances the flavor and caramelizes the natural sugars in sweet peppers. This gives them extra sweetness. It breaks down the peppers too so that they are super soft and juicy. Popping them in the air fryer basket as opposed to the oven is an easy way to roast them and it saves a lot of time too!
Serve the roasted peppers as a healthy side dish or they make a great addition to your favorite salads, sandwiches, or pickles.
What color bell peppers are best?
You can use red bell peppers, yellow, orange, or green bell peppers. The yellow bell peppers, orange peppers, and red peppers are the sweetest and they will caramelize the best. These colorful bell peppers are full of vitamin c and other vitamins and nutrients.
Green peppers are peppers that are unripe. They are more bitter than the other colors and have slightly fewer vitamins. Green bell peppers are still excellent when roasted.
Should you peel the air fried bell peppers?
There is no need to peel the bell peppers. The skin is not thick and it’s easy to eat. If you do wish to peel the peppers, then this is easy to do after they have been cooked in the air fryer. The hot air of the air fryer will cause the skin to blister and puff.
Let the cooked peppers sit in a covered bowl or container to lightly steam after cooking. Once cool enough to handle, the skin can be peeled off.

- Fresh bell peppers – Or any other kind of pepper that you wish to roast. You can also use a mix of colorful peppers to bring different flavor profiles.

- Salt and black pepper
- Extra seasonings (optional) – garlic powder, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, or other seasonings of your choosing
Air fryer peppers method
Quarter the peppers and remove the seeds and the pith. The easiest way to do this is to hold the tops of the peppers and slice off each quarter. You can also chop them into large chunks, or cut bell pepper halves.
Lightly drizzle the peppers with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
Lay the pepper pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer, though if a few are overlapping that’s okay. They will shrink as they cook.
Cook at 400°F/200°C for approximately 12-14 minutes. Halfway through the cooking time, shake the air fryer pan to flip the pepper pieces. Every air fryer cooks a little bit differently, so check on your peppers.
If leaving the peppers unpeeled, they can be served right away. If peeling the peppers, let them sit in a covered bowl or container to lightly steam after cooking. Once cooled to room temperature, the skin can be peeled off.
Storing
Serve the peppers as a vegetable side dish alongside your main meal for a great way to add some extra vegetables. They can be added to your favorite soup or salad or use it in bell pepper salsa.
The air fryer roasted peppers can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 4 days. They can also be frozen for up to 3 months, and stored in an airtight freezer bag.
